THE FINAL TABLE — INSTITUTIONAL OVERVIEW
The Final Table documents the meals that precede transitions. A move. A separation. A closing. A departure. The sale of a home, the end of a job, the last night of a restaurant, the last time a family gathered in a kitchen that would soon belong to someone else.
These meals are not ceremonial. In most cases, the participants did not know it was the final table. They did not prepare. They did not mark the occasion. They ate what was available, talked about what was ordinary, and only later recognized the meal for what it was: the last time.
We believe these meals deserve a record. Not because they were extraordinary, but because they were not. The ordinariness is the point. Life changes around a table that is set the same way it was set the week before. The food is the same. The conversation is the same. The table is the same. And then it isn't.
Submissions are accepted from anyone. The meal may be recent or decades old. The record is permanent. The table is closed.
